A country in ruins
Basic services have collapsed, vaccination rates have plummeted, and the violence has spread to all corners of the country.
Food
production has declined, transportation routes are disrupted, and as
the economy continues to crumble, essential foods and commodities remain
out of reach for many.
Every day, another 30,000 people fall into crisis levels of food insecurity.
Attempts
from humanitarian agencies to deliver aid are often complicated by
security threats and roadblocks, greatly hampering efforts to deliver
vital goods, like food, to the people who need them.
Sexual violence has been widely documented as a weapon of war throughout the country’s 2-year conflict.
Families
have been uprooted multiple times as attacks spread all over the
country and walk for days in search of safety and shelter. The number of
deaths is officially reported in the tens of thousands, but in reality,
there is an invisible death toll as many deaths go unreported. Mass
graves are routinely discovered.
A lifeline
As
the fighting spread across the country, Islamic Relief has moved our
main office several times to allow us to continue operating and
supporting people in need in Sudan.
Many of our staff have become
displaced and are experiencing the same challenges as the communities we
serve. And yet, they continue to work hard to reach the most
vulnerable, distributing food, water, cash and temporary shelter, as
well as other support, to communities across the country.
Since the onset of the conflict, we have reached 1.2 million people with lifesaving humanitarian aid.
More help is needed
Islamic Relief is calling for an end to hostilities before more lives are ruined, and more regions are pushed into famine.
Islamic Relief has worked in Sudan for 40 years and remains by the sides of families caught up in the crisis.
